Alexa 'IT' Chung

So I bought Alexa Chungs IT , and so far its pretty good. Its not quite a coffee table book but more like an end table book just because it's so small . Its a beautiful book.

Thus far i'm really liking her straight forward style of writing and all her small british sayings she throws in without realizing these subtleties make her who she is- it shows character.

Examples include but are not limited to the following:
Running shoes = Trainers
Mom = Mum
Study up kids = Swot up kids
Hollywood stars = Stars of the Silver Screen
Pants = Trousers
Swetater = Jumper

This book is broken down it's not a continuous prose, it's written in what i consider list form; she bounces from topic to topic listing what she loves and what has affected her. It's an easy way to get to know the writer without them writing a biography. She explains the external factors and how they've affected her but not what the effect has been. She is the end product of all the topics in her book.

I'm also loving the images she's incorporating into the book , they're fun and quirky and show her eclectic personality.

The one thing i wish  got to hear more of is her professional gains. Thus far it's been solely about her childhood and i'm halfway through.

Upon looking up additional biographical information on her you realize what an interesting life she's had. By interesting i mean all the opportunities shes received seem to have flowed directly to her. Discovered as a fashion model at 16 , offered several modelling campaigns, contributor for British Vogue & occasionally on television.
She's got it made.
I'm not saying she hasn't worked for these opportunities, just saying she's very fortunate to have been given some of them. She's seen in the front rows of most fashion shows and is known for her awesome street style.
She mixes great pieces together and is fearless in her outfit choices.

All in all she's a pretty cool cat.

Good on ya' Alexa

I make lists.
I make lists about music, lists about artists, movies, people i want to research; needless to say i'm going to need to start making lists about all the lists I have.

In one of my lists i found the name Norman Parkinson.
This is a concise biography of him and some of his work.

Born in 1913 in London Educated in Westminster School; he began his career as a photographer for the courts.
In 1934 he opened his own studio with Norman Kibblewhite.
From 1935 -1940 he worked for Harper's Bazaar and Bystander Magazine.
1947 He married actress Wenda Rogerson.
From 1945 to 1960 he was employed as a portrait and fashion photographer for Vogue.

From 1960 to 1964 he was an Associate Contributing Editor of Queen magazine. In 1963 he moved to Tobago, although frequently returned to London, and from 1964 until his death he worked as a freelance photographer.

Honestly his photographs speak for themselves, they're quirky and there's always something that pops, he plays with focus and colour and each of his photographs tells a short paragraph, not a story but a short paragraph of what their day was like.

I hope you enjoy his work as much as I do, and if you're interested in seeing more... just click here.

The Heathers.

So last night I went to Chapters and i drove there myself, because i got my license which is essentially crazy exciting.

I got there and wasn't really looking for anything in particular i just wanted to get out of the house. I love chapters i love all the neat things they carry : picture frames, prints, candles, scarves, hats baby clothing and the list goes on and on. however next time you go i fully recommend you pick up a French vanilla Bourbon candle- it's the bees knees.

I also purchase a copy of Alexa Chungs IT, because well it looks amazing. Anyways i was flipping through and i found a great picture of Winona Ryder in Heathers, and Alexa's description of how she's so cool made me feel as though i must watch it, and so i did.

This is my review.
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ⭐︎

It was pretty great, it was unexpected and the fashion was amazing and the way it was filmed was pretty intense. It was such a production, and Winona Ryder and Christian Slater were sensational.
The movie is about high school bullies and teen suicide ; if this movie had been released today everybody would be so much touchier about it. I recommend you check it out if you're interested in cool clothing and a subtly ridiculous plot.

Plot
Veronica (Winona Ryder) is part of the most popular clique at her high school, but she disapproves of the other girls' cruel behaviour  When Veronica and her new boyfriend, J.D. (Christian Slater), confront clique leader Heather Chandler (Kim Walker) and accidentally poison her, they make it appear a suicide. Soon Veronica realizes that J.D. is intentionally ... [don't want to ruin it]

Check it out and I hope you enjoy it

Nouveau Look.

Alright so i haven't written anything recently because i realized  there was very little in fashion i recently  felt passionate for but then i realized that shouldn't affect whether i write or not.

So with a little of determination i rebranded the SOF logo last night. I've come to realize that fashion isn't just about clothes; in fact the definition of fashion as per the New Oxford American Dictionary is:
fashion |ˈfaSHən|nouna popular trend, esp. in styles of dress and ornament or manners of behavior: his hair is cut in the latest fashion.• the production and marketing of new styles of goods, esp. clothing and cosmetics: [ as modifier ] a fashion magazine.a manner of doing something: the work is done in a rather casual fashion.verb [ with obj. ] (often be fashioned)make into a particular or the required form: the bottles were fashioned fromgreen glass.• (fashion something intouse materials to make into: the skins were fashioned into boots and shoes.PHRASESafter a fashion to a certain extent but imperfectly or unsatisfactorily: he could read after a fashion.after (or in) the fashion of in a manner similar to: she took servants for granted after the fashion of wealthy and pampered girls.in (or out of) fashion popular (or unpopular) and considered (or not considered) to be attractive at the time in question.DERIVATIVESfashioner nounORIGIN Middle English (in the sense make, shape, appearance, also a particular make or style): from Old French façon, from Latin factio(n-), from facere do, make.-fashioncomb. formin the manner of something specified: dog-fashion | castanet-fashion.• in the style associated with a specified place or people: American-fashion | Bristol-fashion.
It's alot to take in but what i think the most important and notable thing for me is this is no longer a blog specifically devoted to the fashion industry , it's devoted to the fashion. The way things currently are, the fashion of today, the fashion of tomorrow and the fashion of yesterday. This is a blog about the way things currently are for me. It's my opinion on whats out there: clothing, books, music, art etc...
Enjoy, i'm so glad i've decided to do this and i hope you like it.

SOF

Baseball, Wool, Quilting and Plaid.

So recently I was cleaning out my e-mail inbox.
Needless to say there was a lot of stuff i didn't need.  Rcently i've been trying not to spend any money. whether it be online or else where. Aka deleting all the e-mails from different online brands so as to not tempt me.

Whilst going through all my e-mails i came across the Club Monaco Coat Shop. Needless to say it got me pretty excited about fall.

Below are my Favourite Club Monaco coats.

Adee Poncho $349.00
Great Poncho, with a fury texture & a unique plaid.
The leather detailing and the exaggerated zipper and neck clasp add a modern feel to this garment.

Barbour Goring Jacket $299.00
Ahhh this jacket is so sexy. Its cropped and sinches in the waist perfectly. The quilting is so modern yet provides an old school British feel. This jacket will add a little umph to almost any outfit.

Darci Coat $550.00
This jacket is KILLER. Its masculine feel and old baseball style raglan sleeves provide a modern feel to a detail that is usually seen cropped and puffy. It's sleek and streamlined.

Rylie Wrap Coat $449.00
There are few things better than Robe styled coat. this is easy and polished and can be thrown over a tshirt and jeans or over a lovely cocktail dress, all is dependant of the fabric.

Keep it classy.

Kurios very curios

So recently I went to Cirque du Soleil with a girlfriend of mine and it was amazing. I've been to Cirque de Soleil before and i've always been in awe of how the performers can contort and create.
This was no different.
Jugglers, Acrobats , Gymnasts , Ribbon and Rope work, Hand Balancers etc...
It was all absolutely captivating, the scene was placed in an Old turn of the era setting. The Set was incredible, old wood and rustic metallic details, intricately woven tapestry nothing was spared, not even the live music and band hidden behind a huge metallic netting inserted into a clock.
If you ever have the opportunity to go see a show GO, I promise you won't want to leave
You'll be glued to your seat after the show is done with stupefaction and wonder.

Fashion Magazine recently did a great feature with the props of Cirque Du Soleil that will be featured in the October 2014. The images speak for themselves. The images were taken by Chris Nicholls and featured Alexandra Tomlinson.

The photographer did a killer job however I feel as though they could have chosen a model with a more eerie look. For me Alexandra is just a little too pretty, maybe its the styling of the hair, but this could have been a shoot that got pushed to the edge but instead it just fell a little short.
Nonetheless the Cirque elements are amazing, and i hope the imagery encourages everyone to go to a performance at least once in their lifetime.

Eureka; Confused Beauty

So my blog is weird.
It's not much of a blog anymore it's just kind of become this thing where i used to post.
shitty right.

well i can't say that i have as much of a grasp on the fashion industry as when i was younger. i feel as though it's changed into something so unlikeable .
or maybe i've just become more aware of how kind of broad it is.
it all used to be so narrow lets say like 5 years ago. but now everyone is in the fashion industry. its shocking.

so here i am left at my computer unsure of what i actually want to write about.
like what the fuck is meaningful to me..... truthfully it's creation, effort, and all the small things we cease to notice. no i'm serious like the smallest thing we  hardly ever think about.

its the things like how the rain smells right now as it's mixed in with the amazing smell of Molton Browns Yuan Zhi Mist that relaxes me , and how Ooh La by the Kooks is currently playing and its total bliss.

its this incredible background song like they just turned my life into a teen drama.
it's quite dramatic.
it's how i feel like someone is actually going to read this post and understand me.
it's those moments when you pause and like for 20 seconds life actually makes sense , like you understand its purpose and your own. its like that incredible ability and to just see the confused beauty of it all and then you just keep going.

Maybe thats what my blog will become , confused beauty. something that doesn't make sense but it doesn't have to because it's lovely .

Whoever reads this i hope you understand it. i hope you see my love for the beauty in the world. i hope you start focusing on the small things.

Ay Brazil Que saudade!

The World cup is in full swing and they picked the perfect location to host the games - Brazil.
The heat, the excitement, the people, the culture everything in brazil is so well suited to the excitement that fuels such a tournament. Tan skin, dark hair , light eyes, this has been one beautiful world cup to watch; so it goes without saying that we have kept an eye on the stands for all the great and crazy moments.

Not only have we kept an eye on the stands , and the field of course (the players are gorgeous) but we've also kept an eye out for any companies who would use this amazing event as an inspiration for something else.
Adidas Originals has come out with an amazing collection of World Cup inspired activewear; and while this could have been extremely cheesy they did it in a pretty great way. My only criticism would have to be the huge Adidas logo featured on basically every piece, sometimes branding is just over kill.
